The Optics Series™
Golden Gate Audubon Society staff member Stephanie Strait and birding enthusiast Brian Young from the San Francisco Bay Area tested the Scope Porter 200 AW during a long day in the field. Here are their impressions of our purpose-built, hands-free scope and tripod pack.
“This is a great pack for treks where we take our scope and tripod and set them up in a variety of spots throughout the day. The hip support keeps the weight evenly distributed and off our shoulders on long hikes. We really like the attachments on the shoulder straps, which allow us to carry the tripod on either shoulder. This is the quickest way to move the scope on short stretches between promising sites, and we end up carrying our scope this way most of the time. This pack is compact, but holds a lot; the side compartments can hold the full edition of The Sibley Guide to Birds and plenty more. We love the graphic on the side pocket—you never have to guess which side to place the water reservoir!”
